Disability Support Services for Students

The office of Disability Support Services for Students (DSS), coordinates those services essential to providing students with disabilities equal access and the opportunity to be successful at the State University of New York at Fredonia. The office works with students, faculty and staff to ensure that no otherwise qualified student with a disability... shall solely by reason of his or her disability, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination at Fredonia.

The rights of students with disabilities are protected by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as well as Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Services available for qualifying students include but are not limited to: extended time for exams/quizzes, reduced distraction testing, accessible print materials, as well as classroom accommodations including notetakers and interpreters. In addition, the DSS office assists with non-academic accommodations such as housing, meal plans and snow removal.

All accommodations are determined on a case-by-case, course-by-course and semester-by-semester basis. Fredonia is not responsible for providing items and/or services of a personal nature such as attendant services, transportation, wheelchairs, hearing aids and/or other assistive devices.

The office of Disability Support Services for Students is a National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) voter registration site.
