Students in Free Enterprise re-brands as Enactus

Students representing SUNY Fredonia’s chapter of Enactus met with representatives from Japan’s Niigata University in November.

Students in SUNY Fredonia’s chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) are rebranding the group under the name Enactus. The group is part of an international non-profit organization that combines the efforts of students, academic and business leaders to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.

SIFE was founded in 1975 and globally rebranded as Enactus last fall. Fredonia’s chapter, which has been active since 1994, will be operating under this new name.

Students involved in Enactus have the opportunity to work with academic and business leaders to develop projects that promote positive action and create sustainable relationships within the community. The new name is meant to reflect the idea of enabling progress through entrepreneurial action. This year’s Fredonia Enactus Team is tackling eight projects focusing on helping local businesses go green, creating a sustainable water bottle, recycling ink cartridges, connecting with high schools to build leadership, working with elementary schools on anti-bullying campaigns, working with high school and college students to not drink and drive, building awareness of Cradle Beach initiatives to serve disabled and disadvantaged youth, and working with the city of Dunkirk to bring art to city buildings.
