Student teaching program in Australia offered in January

SUNY Fredonia presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students in the Department of Education who would like an international student teaching program in Australia. The program will be offered in January of 2012. Applications are available in the International Education Center for all education students and are due by May 1 at noon.

This student teaching program is through the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and is a nine-week long experience. The program consists of two specialized courses over a four-week period, Australian Education and Australian Curriculum Studies, which are designed to prepare students for their experience in Queensland schools, one of the three main education providers in Australia.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to student teach for 35 days in unique and rural settings. Those in the program depart in early January and return mid-March.

Recently, SUNY Fredonia student Matthew Kepler returned from this trip. “To be able to study abroad has certainly opened up my eyes to the world,” says Kepler. “I mean, there is so much out there that we have never seen or experienced that having a small taste has truly been a blessing. I think that many people are not willing to take the risk of living out of a backpack or single suitcase and teach in a foreign country where they speak funny. It was challenging, but I learned and saw so much. I would recommend it to everyone.”
