Speaker, dinner and study abroad fair highlight International Education Week

A keynote address offering insight into the developing world by the executive producer of PBS’s “Bridge the Gap TV,” a feast of Brazilian food and a study abroad fair will highlight International Education Week activities at SUNY Fredonia, taking place Wednesday and Thursday Sept. 5 and 6, on campus.

Wednesday: Keynote Speech and Brazilian Dinner

PBS personality Chris Bashinelli, whose address will be presented Wednesday, Sept. 5, 3:30 p.m., at 101 Jewett, is a world traveler and also writes for the Huffington Post and Lonely Planet.  Admission to his presentation is free and open to all students, faculty, staff and community members, but tickets are required and can be obtained at the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office, G144 Williams Center. 

Following his keynote address is a Brazilian dinner prepared by FSA. It starts at 5 p.m. in the Horizon Room. Admission is $8.82 if paid in FredFunds or Fredonia debit, or $26.50 with cash or credit card. Tickets can be purchased at SUNY Fredonia Box Office or online at www.fredonia.edu/tickets/

Thursday: Study Abroad Fair:

Students will have an opportunity to investigate a host of study abroad opportunities on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Williams Center Multipurpose Room. SUNY Fredonia faculty who will lead J-term and summer programs will provide information and answer questions between 10 a.m. to noon; representatives from other SUNY schools will introduce their programs from 2 to 5 p.m.

Passport services were scheduled but have been canceled.

Bashinelli created “Bridge the Gap TV” to inspire the next generation by presenting new perspectives from the developing world and fostering cross-cultural understanding. His series explores hardships, such as unemployment, poverty and genocide, as well as success, resilience and resourcefulness.

The program’s three goals are to: immerse viewers in a new culture, educate them through interviews with influential political and social figures, and empower an audience to be the change they wish to see in the world. Each episode presents practical ways viewers can move the world forward.
