SUNY Fredonia and Canadaway Wildflowers are offering a non-credit course entitled, “Wildflower Walks,” which will meet six times in April and May at SUNY Fredonia in Fenton Hall, Room 179. Sara Baker Michalak, proprietor of Canadaway Wildflowers, will facilitate.

The course will meet on Saturday mornings, 9 to 11 a.m. starting April 8 and ending May 27. The class on April 29 will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the class on May 27 will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost of the course is $99, which includes 16 hours of field experience, instruction in how to identify native wildflower plants, and two field guides.

The eight-week course is for individuals interested in the area’s natural history, discovering native spring wildflowers, ferns and mosses and becoming more familiar with the region’s native flora and ecology. The course involves scheduled walks through various areas of the county to identify plants in their natural environments. Appropriate clothing and footwear are required. If weather for any of the scheduled walks is prohibitive, there will be classroom presentations and discussions of Wildflowers of the Eastern Deciduous Woodlands.
