Basar Koc is a dual degree student between Ege University in Turkey and SUNY Fredonia who has achieved several scholarly distinctions.

He has finished his thesis work under the supervision of computer and information sciences professor Dr. Ziya Arnuvat and is taking advanced courses. From his thesis work, he has already successfully published and presented a conference paper at the 6th IEEE International Conference on System of Systems Engineering (SOSE) in Albuquerque, New Mexico this past June.

A non-profit organization, IEEE is the world's largest professional association for the advancement of technology.

Since the first conference publication, Koc’s work has produced more results. He has submitted two additional papers to IEEE Computer Society-sponsored conferences; one of which was submitted to the 2011 WNY Image Processing Workshop in Rochester and the other was submitted to the 9th International Conference on Frontiers of Information Technology Conference at Islamabad, Pakistan.

Koc is also submitting an abstract to the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). If his work is selected, he will present it in Capitol Hill, Washington D.C.

Ege University and SUNY Fredonia have Dual Diploma agreements in two majors: computer sciences and international relations. The programs allow students to experience two distinctively different cultures, which prepares them well for work in a multicultural environment and to function effectively in an international arena.

Upon graduation, Ege students may apply for a 12 month permit to work in the United States.
