A celebration of the Chinese New Year is being organized by students in the Chinese Club for Saturday, Jan. 28. The event, slated to begin at 6:15 p.m., will be in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
The Fredonia men’s hockey team will host its annual “Pink the Rink” game on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Steele Hall Ice Arena. The Blue Devils will take on Post University in an exciting NCAA contest. It will be the 10th year the team has held the “Pink the Rink” game and players will be wearing a new style jersey unlike any worn in past years. All proceeds from the sale of the jerseys will go to the American Cancer Society and all available jerseys have been purchased for this year’s event.
There’s no place like home for the holidays – that is, unless you can manage to take over someone else's abode. That’s the situation that arises in the comedy, “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” the next offering in the Walter Gloor Mainstage Series.
The first performance in the United States of music from “Arctic Song,” a musical written by Denny Laine, a former member of the Moody Blues and Wings and a GRAMMY Award recipient, will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.
Scholar-activist Sara Goldrick-Rab, author of “Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid, and the Betrayal of the American Dream,” will deliver a talk based on her new book on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at Rosch Recital Hall.
“Poinsettia Pops” will be presented on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall as part of the DFT Communications Series. The Highland Divas, a trio based in New York City, will bring their Celtic vocal stylings to some all-time Christmas classics. Also featured will be the Western New York Chamber Orchestra.
Fredonia School of Music Concerto Competition winner Lucia E.S. Helgren will perform on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall with the Fredonia Chamber Orchestra. The program will also include the “String Serenade” by Tchaikovsky and Mozart's masterful Symphony No. 40 in g minor.
De-Stress for Success, a series of activities and study aids, is sponsored by the Student Counseling Center, Reed Library, Student Affairs, Student Health Center, Residence Life, Campus Life and Spectrum. Dance, meet furry friends, eat healthy, relax or craft for a study break. Quiet study areas are also established in Reed Library and the Williams Center, and the popular Exam Study Break is slated for Dec. 13.
On Wednesday, Dec. 7, the Annual Pottery Show and Sale will be held in the Multipurpose Room of the Williams Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to benefit the University Police Criminal Justice Scholarship Fund. The fund was established through the Fredonia College Foundation by University Police Lieutenant Clifton Wheeler, who recognized a need for more scholarship opportunities for Criminal Justice majors.
The artwork of the internationally renowned collaborative duo Kahn and Selesnick will be on display in the Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery starting Sept. 6 in “Truppe Fledermaus and the Carnival at the End of the World.”
