The ALANA/Lavender Ceremony: A Celebration of Achievement and Inclusivity is an opportunity to honor IC Student Leaders and those graduating seniors of African, African-American, Caribbean, Hispanic, LatinX, Asian, Pacific Islander, and/or Native American descent (ALANA) and those self-identifying members of the LGBTQIA+ Community (Lavender). 

The recognition ceremony is slated for Friday, May 10, from noon until 2 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room of the Williams Center. 

The ceremony will include the awarding of Intercultural Center stoles, Kente stoles (ALANA), Rainbow cords (Lavender), and light refreshments. 

There will be performances by Fredonia's African Drummer Assemble, Blue Ice, and the EnFusion Dance Troupe. Speakers include Amanda Keppel and Tnyas Catalan, with SUNY Fredonia alumnus Carl Lam as keynote speaker.

Organizers include the Intercultural Center and Student Affairs Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging Committee.

Rachel Echevarria, a senior from Fredonia, NY, majoring in Environmental Sciences and Geology, won second place (and a cash prize) in the undergraduate division at the virtual conference, the 2024 Sigma Xi Student Research Showcase.
