Department of Sociocultural and Justice Sciences Associate Professor Jesse Norris was the lead author of the journal article, "Decision-Making in Terrorism Sting Operations: Is Entrapment Driven by the Sunk-Cost Effect and Intergroup Biases?"

The article, published in the Oct. 9 issue of the online Journal of Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism, was based on an experiment testing whether the sunk cost bias or bias against minorities might explain people's decision to entrap suspects in terrorism sting operations.

The study found that only younger participants were affected by the sunk cost bias, and that the sunk cost bias only made a difference in scenarios involving right-wing extremist suspects.

Co-authors included Dr. Joseph McFall, a former SUNY Fredonia faculty member, and Dr. Hanna Grol-Prokopczyk of the University at Buffalo.
