Morrisroe named to Fredonia College Council
Richard J. Morrisroe, Esq. is SUNY Fredonia's newest College Council member.
New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul has appointed local attorney Richard J. Morrisroe, Esq., to a position on the College Council at SUNY Fredonia.
Mr. Morrisroe, former Dunkirk City Attorney, is now of counsel with VanDette Law PLLC, with offices in Buffalo and Dunkirk.
A 1997 graduate of Amherst College with a B.A. in American Studies and Spanish, cum laude, Mr. Morrisroe later earned his J.D. cum laude at the State University at Buffalo Law School in 2011. In 2010 he was named Champion and Best Oral Advocate at the Desmond Moot Court Competition.
Before entering the legal profession, Mr. Morrisroe was a banker with M&T Bank, and an elementary and junior high school Spanish teacher in the Buffalo Public Schools, followed by a position as Executive Director of the Heart of the City Neighborhoods, a small non-profit housing community development corporation. He was later a Prevention and Outreach Coordinator with WNY United Against Drugs and Alcohol, Inc., and worked in real estate for the Polis Realty Group and Hunt Real Estate ERA.
Following law school, Mr. Morrisroe established the firm Morrisroe Hebert LLP of Buffalo, wound it down five years later to serve as the Executive Director of the Commission on Citizens’ Rights and Community Relations for the City of Buffalo, and then left that position to become part-time City Attorney for Dunkirk, and to open his solo practice, the Law Office of Richard J. Morrisroe, which served both the Dunkirk/Fredonia and Buffalo markets. He continues to do so now with VanDette Law, where he specializes in real estate transactions and litigation, criminal defense, and plaintiff’s personal injury law. Morrisroe is also retained as general counsel for the City of Dunkirk Housing Authority.
