Alumna honored at National Philanthropy Day

Diane (Wilson), '76, and John Burkholder

Diane (Wilson) and John Burkholder were recently honored by SUNY Fredonia and the Fredonia College Foundation at National Philanthropy Day, conducted by the Western New York Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

Born and raised in the Buffalo area, the couple had professional careers in business. Ms. Burkholder was a Managing Director with JPMorgan Chase up until her retirement in 2010, while Mr. Burkholder worked in various management roles with Waste Management, Inc. for well over two decades.

Throughout the years, the foundation staff noted that the Burkholders have generously devoted significant volunteer time and resources to the Fredonia College Foundation and SUNY Fredonia. In addition, they have been involved with non-profit organizations such as the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, and Meals on Wheels of Western New York.

A graduate of SUNY Fredonia’s Class of 1976, Ms. Burkholder is a current member of the Fredonia College Foundation Board of Directors, where she shares her expertise as the Chair of the Investment Committee. Mr. Burkholder is on the Alumni Council for Utica University, his alma mater, and stays involved in their volunteer activities.

Kessler receives AIA Moynihan Award

Markus Kessler, who has shepherded approximately 120 SUNY Fredonia construction projects having a combined value of over $430 million, has received the 2024 Daniel Patrick Moynihan Award, one of three Professional Awards conferred by AIA (American Institute of Architects) New York State.
