The American Democracy Project has announced that Allyson Youngs, a senior majoring in Communication: Public Relations, from Allegany, has been placed in the 2022 ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll, a recognition program for college students at participating campuses who do outstanding work to advance nonpartisan democratic engagement.

Ms. Youngs, a graduate of Allegany-Limestone Central High School, joins a group of 82 college students to be recognized for their nonpartisan voter engagement efforts on campuses across the country.

“Under Allyson Youngs’s leadership, our campus chapter of the American Democracy Project has helped more students become engaged in civic issues.” – Dr. Angela McGowan-Kirsch

“Under Allyson Youngs’s leadership, our campus chapter of the American Democracy Project has helped more students become engaged in civic issues. Allyson runs our blog, ‘A Blue Devil’s View on Politics,’ and leads a group of students who created videos and social media content that helps students become well-informed voters and to appreciate the impact of their voter participation,” said Department of Communication Associate Professor Angela McGowan-Kirsch.

“I’m glad that Allyson is being recognized for her excellence in nonpartisan democratic engagement,” Dr. McGowan-Kirsch added.

Based on her experience working with students at SUNY Fredonia, Youngs plans to seek employment in college admissions, perhaps in a recruitment/engagement public relations capacity.

College student voter turnout has increased since 2016, and this increase has been driven by students, according to Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge is excited to expand our ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll to recognize these student voting champions across the country,” Ms. Domagal-Goldman added.

“These students registered voters, served on their campus voting coalitions, spearheaded voter education efforts, advocated for campus polling locations and organized other voter engagement efforts to ensure their peers were confident and informed voters. We are excited to see what they continue to accomplish ahead of the 2022 midterms,” Domagal-Goldman said.

The American Democracy Project and ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement.
