“Build Expand Achieve” opens at Art Gallery

The second of two senior art exhibitions, “Build Expand Achieve,” will open with a free public reception at the State University of New York at Fredonia on Friday, April 28 at 7 p.m. in the Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery Lobby. “Build Expand Achieve” is supported by The Department of Visual Arts and New Media, The Friends of Rockefeller Arts Center and The Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery.

“Build Expand Achieve” will feature artwork from members of the SUNY Fredonia Department of Visual Arts and New Media Class of 2006 in such media as graphic design, photography, illustration, sculpture, ceramics and drawing.

“I’m really excited,” said Chelsea Ingalls, publicity chair for “Build Expand Achieve” and an arts administration student who will be participating in her final show as a SUNY Fredonia undergraduate. “This is the first exhibition I have been a part of here on campus, so that makes it extra-special to me. Plus, there are a lot of graphic design majors in this particular show, and their work is really, really good – I know that I am looking forward to seeing it.”

“Build Expand Achieve” will remain on display through Sunday, May 7. The next exhibition at the Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery will be “Norman Rockwell: The American Family Drawings,” a fund-raising project scheduled to open on Saturday, June 17.

“Norman Rockwell: The American Family” will include a rare collection of limited edition Rockwell lithographs depicting life in the 1950s and 1960s. This exhibition is supported by MassMutual Financial Group on behalf of its agencies, Waring Financial Group of Buffalo, the Chautauqua Institution, Howard Hanna Holt Real Estate and Spann Law Offices.

In addition to food, wine and music, this event will include a slice of regional Americana – a visual overview of the history of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle (CLSC). Founded in 1876 at the Chautauqua Institution, the CLSC is reputed to be the oldest continuous book club in the United States.

An opening reception for “Norman Rockwell: The American Family” will be held at SUNY Fredonia on Saturday, June 17 at 7 p.m. in the Rockefeller Arts Center Art Gallery. Tickets are $35 apiece and available by invitation or after June 1 on a limited basis by calling 716-673-4897.

“Norman Rockwell: The American Family” will be open to the public from Sunday, June 18 through Sunday, June 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Tickets are $10 for generalk admission and $5 for seniors, students and children under 18. Presale tickets go on sale at the SUNY Fredonia Central Ticket Office on Saturday, April 1.
